Be Brave Enough to Stretch - Step Outside Your Comfort Zone
Why High-Achieving Women Must Step Outside Their Comfort Zone to Grow
When I was a teenager, people often said I was confident and strong-minded. And in some ways, I was, I knew how to act the part. I could fake it ‘til I made it, and I became good at pretending everything was under control. People would comment to me , “You’re so confident,” but the truth was… deep down, I wasn’t.
I was self-conscious about my background, being half Maltese with darker skin, thick hair, and a curvy body. I was aware of my family’s financial struggles as I grew up in the 80s, as one of four kids in a household that was just surviving. Although it was fun, and I remember dancing and singing a lot, but we were always stretching financially with what we had.
So, how did I learn to step outside my comfort zone as a teenager and through every season of life since?
Let’s start with this…
What Is a Comfort Zone, Really? Your comfort zone is the place where everything feels safe, manageable, and predictable. You feel in control. There’s minimal stress, and life flows from day to day.
For high achieving women like yourself, who carry a lot, who lead others, and rarely let the ball drop - the comfort zone can be deceiving. Because from the outside, everything looks like it’s working. (do you resonate?)
But the truth is? Sometimes you’re just holding it all together in silence.
The comfort zone becomes the place where you stop challenging yourself… because you’re too exhausted from keeping up appearances.
So What Happens When We Step Out Of Our Comfort Zone Ladies?
We get challenged.
We feel fear, uncertainty, and resistance.
We might even fail.
But we also learn.
We grow.
We develop resilience.
We build courage.
And we stretch into the next version of ourselves.
From my own experience, this is where the real magic happens and that is “when we become comfortable being uncomfortable”.
And here’s what I want you to know.. know that the discomfort doesn’t last forever and it is a sign that you are growing.
The more intentional actions I take toward my vision, even when it feels stretchy, and I have so many goals and dreams, when I am intentional and leading each day with purpose, the more aligned I become. I stop second-guessing myself. I gain clarity. I expand. I recalibrate. I refocus. And I arrive at a new level of ease… until it’s time to stretch again! Time to transform - how exciting is that!!
Let this be your sign. That you don’t need to burn it all down or take a giant leap. But you do need to take the first step.
You’re not alone in this and you don’t have to do it perfectly. You just need to be willing to stretch.
You’ve got this. Love lots Kelly xox
